Admissions Overview
We’re glad you want to know us better. Let’s start with the two-sentence description.
Pittsburgh Technical Institute is...
a two-year career college with a single focus: student success.
Faculty and staff are committed to delivering the best career-focused education in Western Pennsylvania.
What makes PTI Different?
First there are the tangibles.
- We are the first two-year career college in Western PA to receive accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
- We sit on 180 acres of rolling green fields and wooded hillsides. Our campus is a rural oasis midway between urban downtown Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh International Airport, not far from suburban shopping malls and residential developments.
- We teach our classes in a single academic building– a large one with six floors, two huge computer labs, many specialty labs, and many, many classrooms and student service areas at the North Fayette Campus.
- We have very few doors to impede access to faculty, student success coordinators, department chairs, admissions coordinators, financial aid personnel, resident life staff – all the individuals who help make your education a successful experience.
- We are a founding partner at the Regional Learning Alliance in Cranberry Township. This campus offers evening classes to the adult student.
- Parking is free at the North Fayette Campus and at PTI-Cranberry at the Regional Learning Alliance.
Then, the intangibles.
- Most instructors are full-time and are available for help before and after classes. No need to check for office hours.
- PTI offers transfer of credit on a case by case basis and credit for prior learning through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP).
- Your stated tuition is a constant; it does not increase year after year if you maintain consistent enrollment in the same program.
- If you live out of state we charge you in-state tuition. Out-of-state students are not penalized with higher tuition rates.
- Estimated book, kit, uniform, and supply costs are included in your financial plan. No need for a large cash payment at the start of each quarter.
What else do you need to know?
- Applications are accepted on a rolling calendar.
- We require a high school diploma or a GED. No need to submit your SATs or ACTs.
- There is no application fee.
- Some programs of study require a background check or other special admissions conditions.
- You progress through your degree or certificate in a cohort group establishing strong friendships and relationships for fun, study and lifelong associations.
- The Center for Certification and Adult Learning offers evening degrees and certificates for non-traditional students returning to school.
- All degree and some certificate programs incorporate an internship giving you real world experience before you graduate.
- All graduates enjoy the help of the Career Services department – free! For as long as you need them.
